The city park is the product of a citizen-orientated examination of the city/countryside theme, which took place as part of Euroga 2002+. The landscape design idea starts from an interpretation of the landscape through searching for traces and using existing minimal elements. The new spatial structure comes to life through the definition of the edges.
The entire landscape is emphasised by striking vegetation architecture on only a third of the area. The tree line is the design backbone of the park. It forms an artificial structure of differentiated tree structures from a large circle of trees. Individual rows of beautiful small-crowned blossom trees dance along the curved path. The tree species selection allows the blossom to begin in the east and end in the west. The magic of the flowers is followed by the changing shades of green of the leaves, which finally end in the spectacle of the autumn colours.
The park’s design creates free spaces, walls, squares, directions, lights, shadows and genuine places in which aesthetic, sensuality and poetry leave the space for a new atmosphere.
Krefeld-Fischeln City Park won the 2006 Landscape Architecture Prize of Nordrhine-Westfalen.
