With Katharinenhöfe, a new neighbourhood is being created in the heart of Alt-Willich, a small town in the wider Ruhr metropolitan area.
This project is of great importance to the town, as the site of the former Katharinenhospital is being revitalised, creating a new area for residential and commercial use. The site is directly adjacent to the Konrad Adenauer Park (north) and is within walking distance of the city centre with its newly designed market square (south). Thanks to the favourable location, the residents of the future quarter will live both centrally and in green surroundings.
The heart of the new residential area will be a neighborhood square that will serve as a space for meetings, neighborly exchange and neighborhood festivals and also acts as a hinge between the city and the park.
A large green area in the shape of a “green finger”, which protrudes into the district from Konrad-Adenauer-Park, offers space for joint activities in the countryside as well as a direct connection to the adjacent park and provides a place for the creation of a district-related small children’s play area for public use.
