The Carso territory represents the fusion between the landscape elements and the historical memory of the First World War. From this perspective, the project seems like a unique occasion for the development of the existing resources. In the Master Plan, the Carso territory is designed like a spiral, a metaphor of the strategic plan, that starts from the Isonzo river, a natural border with the plain.
Then, it seems like we will reach the Italian-Sloven border and find the five paths of the project. The aim is to enhance the landscape, enhance the environment, and develop the cultural tourism sector. This is possible by recognising five elements: the river, the border, the trenches, the polarity and the paths. LAND also coordinated an international competition won by the architect Paolo Burgi for the Monte San Michele enhancement thanks to a hypogeum path in the galleries and two brand new viewpoints, where you can enjoy the Bay of Trieste, a testimony of the strategical importance of the area during the First World War.
Thanks to the mobile app, Carso XR tells the story of the region in digital terms through Extended Reality. You can check the Carso XR app here.
