The park is situated to the south of Sondrio, at the confluence of the Adda and Mallero rivers. Until 2006, the area was occupied by an inert processing plant and used for the storage of various materials. Following the cessation of these industrial activities, an urban transformation project was initiated, paving the way for the development of the Technological Pole, promoted by the Credito Valtellinese banking group. Remarkably, the site’s redevelopment began even before the architectural works commenced through an early greening process known as preverdissement.
The landscape design introduces a series of concave and convex landforms that evoke the natural contours of riverbanks. This project is a prime example of a successful Public-Private Partnership, achieved through the collaboration between the Municipality of Sondrio and the “Ten Great Plain Forests” initiative. This initiative, promoted and financed by the Lombardy Region’s General Agriculture Department and managed by the Province of Sondrio’s Agriculture Department, has created a 40-hectare forest in the valley, of which Adda Mallero Park is a significant component.
