LAND at Future4Cities Festival, Milan

Future4Cities is a Festival to be held on 25 and 26 October at BASE MILANO to celebrate and connect the realities of urban transformation.

The event is organised by Will Media, FROM, BASE Milano and the EU Commission Representation in Italy to celebrate the most innovative urban projects implemented in Italy in 2021-23 and fuel the debate on how cities respond to today’s pressing challenges.

From urban centres pass the axes of change that mark our time: the initiative was created to allow everyone to discuss current issues, such as the impact of technology, combating the climate crisis and changing lifestyles, and discovering new ways of producing value. Two days to nourish the debate on how cities face great challenges and transform themselves to become more equitable, liveable and sustainable.

LAND will be the protagonist with its Research Lab on Wednesday, 25 October, from 2.30 pm to 4.30 pm, with the workshop ‘Anatomy of Public Place’ organised with Park Plus and Systematica’s Transform Transport Foundation. The workshop will provide an overview of the joint publication of the same name, a multidisciplinary interpretation of urban public spaces produced by the research units of the three partners. Through the metaphor of human organs, the participants will explore the elements of public space from different perspectives within a systemic and human-centred approach.

After the introduction, a participatory session will open the debate through three thematic working tables (mobility, architecture, and landscape). Participants will identify the main challenges, shared expectations, and possible scenarios of the public spaces of the future for a more liveable city. The workshop results will feed into the publication with feedback.

Representing LAND on Thursday 26 October will be Andreas Kipar, who will speak at the debate entitled ‘City as Shared Environment’ scheduled at 5.15pm. He will be joined by Giulia Bassetto, author of sustainability at Will Media, in a conversation with Umberto Javarone of Freenow and Clara Pogliani of “Ci sarà un bel clima” about the conversion of the former industrial area of Porta Nuova into a modern, lively and sustainable urban district.
