Heilbronn accepted as candidate for 2026 European Green Capital
Heilbronn's application to become the 2026 European Green Capital has been validated and accepted.
This is amazing news for us as the city of Heilbronn was supported by LAND in its application for the European Green Capital Award.
“Heilbronn is focusing on innovation in transformation – as the latest developments, such as the IPAI, clearly show – and can therefore become a blueprint for small and medium-sized European cities that want to focus on sustainability and digitalisation in a future-oriented and AI-supported way,” explains Andreas Kipar.
We successfully guided the BUGA city of Essen to this international award in 2017 and have many years of experience coordinating and moderating similar formats.
Our team’s comprehensive approach was to provide strategic advice to Heilbronn throughout the application process. We offered coordinated support in terms of content and graphics, aiming to highlight the city’s existing qualities, potential for urban development, and new opportunities. Our goal was to create a sustainable and exemplary overall vision for Heilbronn.
In total, nine cities will be competing for the European Green Capital Award 2026: Braga (Portugal), Brasov (Romania), Córdoba (Spain), Guimarães (Portugal), Heilbronn (Germany), Klagenfurt on Lake Wörthersee (Austria), Linz (Austria), Riga (Latvia), Rybnik (Poland).
Since 2010, the European Commission has honoured cities with more than 100,000 inhabitants who are aware of their local responsibility and face up to the transformation of urban spaces with the title of European Green Capital. The title is awarded annually to cities in Europe that combine sustainability and environmental protection with economic growth, thereby improving the quality of life of their inhabitants.
Stockholm was the first title city in 2010, Hamburg the first German title city in 2011, and Essen the second German city to be awarded the title in 2017.
