Andreas Kipar Receives Bologna Award City of Food Master 2020
On 16 October 2020, in conjunction with World Food Day organised by FAO, Andreas Kipar was honoured with the Bologna Award City of Food Master 2020.
He was recognised “for his exceptional commitment to environmental education, sustainability, and the circular economy, and for raising awareness among the public and institutions about the need to align our daily choices and future planning strategies with sustainable development.”
Kipar’s vision for the future is encapsulated in his 5C Manifesto: Conoscenza (Knowledge), Consapevolezza (Consciousness), Continuità (Continuity), Coltivazione (Cultivation), and Crescita (Growth).
“I am deeply grateful for this recognition, which underscores the importance of a broad discussion on sustainable development, engaging science, urban planning, culture, business, and society,” said Andreas Kipar. “Over the past 30 years, LAND has developed strategies and actions to enhance and promote the concept of the Productive Landscape, delving into the ideas of regeneration and the networking of environmental, economic, and social resources across territories. Our mission of ‘reconnecting people with nature’ is rooted in a holistic approach to sustainability, balancing Nature and Human action. This philosophy forms the basis of our ‘5C Manifesto’: Conoscenza (Knowledge), Consapevolezza (Consciousness), Continuità (Continuity), Coltivazione (Cultivation), and Crescita (Growth). The Bologna Award, now in its 5th edition, resonates with these five pillars, which should guide collective global action during the Decade of Sustainability.”
The Bologna Award is presented annually to individuals in culture, art, public outreach, and social planning. The 2020 award ceremony took place on Friday, 16 October, in Bologna’s Palazzo D’Accursio (Sala Anziani), during a conference organised by the Bologna Award on the theme “Smart & Urban Farming: Sustainable Eating and Living.” The meeting focused on the sustainable development of cities, a crucial step towards promoting an agri-food system that respects environmental needs, social equity, and resource management, ensuring access to healthy and nutritious food for all.
The Bologna Award’s primary objectives are to promote scientific and technological research on agri-food sustainability, improve and optimise food distribution, reduce the environmental and social impact of food production and distribution, and foster a new culture centred on food education. These goals highlight the importance of food and sustainability as critical challenges for the planet’s future. The award is promoted by CAAB – Centro Agroalimentare di Bologna and the FICO Foundation, in collaboration with the Emilia Romagna Region, and is supported by the Chamber of Commerce and the Municipality of Bologna. It is presented in partnership with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and is curated by Duccio Caccioni and Daniela Volpe.
