Towards the first Urban Green Plan for Trento
The Urban Green Plan of Trento we developed with local stakeholders, is set to transform the city's green infrastructure. As the approval process moves forward, this strategic document focuses on enhancing urban ecosystems, improving public spaces, and addressing the growing challenges of climate change.
The Urban Green Plan (Piano del Verde urbano) of Trento represents our shared commitment to fostering a landscape that actively engages with the daily lives of its residents. It’s about cultivating a human-centred, nature-positive urban environment.
Structured around four landscape zones and eight core objectives, the Plan prioritises climate resilience, accessibility, and biodiversity. By integrating nature-based solutions and focusing on de-impermeabilisation, the Plan aims to create a network of green and blue corridors that connect the city’s various districts. This includes enhancing tree-lined avenues, improving biodiversity corridors, and creating cooling areas to mitigate the urban heat island effect.
The plan also addresses the de-paving of urban spaces and introduces new drainage systems in critical areas such as squares, which is in line with Trento’s vision of sustainable development. Additionally, it promotes green roofs, vertical gardens, and urban agricultural initiatives, such as creating community gardens and an agricultural park.
With the participation of local communities and contributions from experts in various fields, the Urban Green Plan positions Trento as a leader in sustainable urban regeneration, working towards a greener, more inclusive city.
