Lecco 2030: a 360° Sustainable City

A system of green and blue infrastructures will mend the city's landscape, fostering the area's identity and natural values.

“First of all, Lecco will be a city for the Lecchesi, because tourists are comfortable in a territory only if who lives there feels comfortable,” said Andreas Kipar during the conference Lecco 2030: a 360° sustainable city, which took place at the Politecnico of Varese on February 23rd.

“Lecco has a position in a first-class context in Lombardy: it must not be bypassed as it is rather an essential part of a highly valuable landscape and environmental system. Koolhaas says that the future is in the countryside, and we agree with that, but we also know that the countryside needs fluid infrastructure. So, Lecco needs to fit into a complex picture.” With these words, LAND presented a preview of the masterplan for the municipality of Lecco to the city’s mayor and a group of students.

The master plan shows how the final project will be structured. This will allow Lecco to develop and focus on the landscape’s five elements: lake, lakeside, city, hills, and mountain, through rivers that represent the “Blue Gold” that needs to be strongly recovered. Blue Gold are obviously the river Caldone, a link between Lecco’s literary identity and his nature; the Bione, a sportive route between lake and mountains; and the Gerenzone, a green open-air factory.

This system of green and blue infrastructures will mend the city’s landscape and, therefore, enable citizens to enjoy and rediscover the area’s identity and natural values.
